ตามหนังสือที่ ศธ. ๐๔๐๕/๔๒๙๕ ลงวันที่ ๒๗ เมษายน พ.ศ. ๒๕๓๐
ระบุว่า วัดนี้จัดตั้งเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๒๒๕ ได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา เมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๒๓๐
ตามหลักฐานนี้ แสดงว่าวัดมะนาวหวานปัจจุบันมีอายุ ๓๒๑ ปีแล้ว และได้สร้างขึ้นในรัชสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนกลาง ตรงกับรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช
สภาพวัดและสิ่งก่อสร้าง วัดมะนาวหวาน ตังอยู่ในที่เหมาะสม มีแม่น้ำไหลผ่าน มีสวนป่าธรรมชาติซึ่ง สงวนว้เป็นเขตอภัยทาน ประกอบด้วยไม้ตะเคียน ไม้ไผ่ และป่าไม้เบญจพรรณ
ปัจจุบันวัดมะนาวหวาน เป็นศูนย์กลางศาสนกิจและเป็นที่ประชุมของส่วนราชการ องค์กรต่างๆ ตามโอกาศ มีพระสิริธรรมราชมุนี (สอน ฐิตวีโร) เป็น เจ้าอาวาสและรองเจ้าคณะจังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช
กิจกรรมพิเศษของวัดมะนาวหวาน นอกจากการศึกษาปฏิบัติธรรมเผยแพร่อบรมศีลธรรมตามปกติแล้ว ทางวัดได้วางโครงการและปฏิบัติอย่างต่อเนื่องหลายโครงการกิจกรรม เช่น การบรรพชาสามเณรภาคฤดูร้อนการสอนพระพุทธศาสนาวันอาทิตย์ การอบรมปฐมนิเทศพระนวกะในพรรษาและอนุเคราะห์เยาวชนในท้องถิ่น ทั้งมีการจัดตั้งมูลนิธิวัดมะนาวหวาน โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ในตราสารเพื่อบำรุงการศึกษา ให้ทุนการศึกษา เผยแพร่ศาสนาและสาธารณกุศลอื่นๆ
